Whenver I ask someone about their love story nowadays, I get the same answer :
We were friends then thought of marrying and we married.
This is the shortest love story as well as my shortest post 🙂

I am very happy that I brushed up my old habit of reading, which was sleeping for a long period. Thanks to Chetan Bhagat and Aravind Adiga, whose books rejuvenated my reading habit. White Tiger, Crisis, Bancroft Strategy, Munpe Parakkunna Pakshikal are some of the last victims I read.
White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (3½)
Crisis by Robin Cook (3)
Bancroft Strategy by Robert Ludlum (2½) –
Munpe Parakkunna Pakshikal by C.Radhakrishnan (3) – It’s one of book which I took lot of time to finish. The story tells about the life of a naxalist in the 70’s and 80’s, and as usual trying to make the naxals a great hero. The story revolves around a journalist who is inspired with the naxal and trying to save the naxal’s life. There is no difference in the way the author is telling this story, but still the starting chapters are worth reading. You won’t even think stop reading the novel when the author is telling the starting life of the naxal. But the middle chapters is stretched like rubber and you will eventually lose the reading instinct. But if you survive that part, like what I did, then the ending chapters are really amazing. You will feel like you had just finished reading a suspense novel, even though the suspense is very small. If you are patient enough and have a strong bias to left movement, it’s a worth read.
Thalamurakal by OV Vijayan-( 4 ) Yet another good work from the great author. After a lagged start it keeps on telling a story of a big old feudal family which comes down when the caste system broke. Even in the starting you will find it difficult to interlink the chapters, later you will identify the beauty of the way the author had laid down the story. Amazing touch and for the lagged start am reducing one star 😛
Angels & Demons by Dan Brown-(3) Follower of the symbolic series written by Dan Brown. Different from Da Vinci Code, this fiction is more like a thriller, which used all the existing symbols in and around Vatican city. It talks about many things regarding Christianity which as a non-christian I was unaware of. But the whole effect of the book was gone when I watched the film, and listen me, don’t watch the film before reading this great book.
The Summons by John Grisham – (3) Good suspense work from the great author. One law professor is left with a huge amount of money from the room where he found his father dead. The changes that comes to the professor after he got this money and the difficulties he faced keeping this money is the main subject. After a lot of thrilling events, something happens, which proves to be the turning point. But the disappointing part is that all the suspense is broken in the last chapter which is very small and readers are left with a feel that the novel ended suddenly. But apart of this, this work is worth reading and enjoyable.
2States by Chetan Bhagat – Now reading. But after the first 50 pages, I could say that it is no more different than his old titles. The same IIM campus, same style love stories, same mixed hostels… Anyway since I jumped into it, am still reading it. Yet to be rated 😉
That’s it… Am Back into this blogosphere after a long gap. 🙂 So much of work and writing Malayalam blogs (http://knappan.wordpress.com) may be some of the reasons which caused me to may stay away from devilsoldier. 😦 But something that happened yesterday here at Bangalore forced me to scribble this new post. Just a small comparison between my current native Bangalore and my Home State Kerala, God’s own country.
The God’s own country, Kerala is famous and notorious for many reasons. Even though am proud to say that I hail from Kerala, there is something which make me ashame to tell that am a Keralaite. The ‘harthal’ culture is the main thing I hate in Kerala. ‘Harthal’ is the modified version of ‘Bandh’, where all normal functions of a city or a place is put on halt to protest against some reasons. All the political parties misused this ‘bandh’ for almost all and every things. Fed up with all these, Kerala court had banned these Bandhs and everyone thought that that’s the end of those things. But there came next version of Bandh, ‘Harthal’ which was the new birth of ‘bandh’. But sincerely when I was a student, I would wait eagerly for some Bandh or Harthal. But now, after becoming one professional, am understanding the pain and discomfort caused by these protests to a regular employee. Loss of one day leave or one day wages will be more than one can afford, at least for some one. Even though majority of people being against these protests, political parties will go along with these protests and ruin citizen’s life now and then. Kerala witness one harthal every week or couple of weeks at least. Cities or Places coming to stand still on these days, MNC’s struggling hard to get their employees to the workplace to meet the commitments, daily waged laborers finding it hard to leave without their daily wage, foreigners and out of station people getting trapped at Bus Stations or railway stations without knowing the harthal and so on had become a regular scene across Kerala. With these increasing number of harthals, I think it had lost its significance and became one simple way to destroy normal people’s life.
Yesterday (August 09, 2009), Karnataka CM, BSY, took a firm step to unveil the statue of Tamil Philosophical Poet, Thiruvalluvar, at Bangalore through which the tension between both the states may come down. But this lead to lots of controversies raised by Kannada activists, which started a hell lot of protests by these activists. Eventually they also called for a ‘Bangalore Bandh’ yesterday 🙂 . Amidst the whole protests, the statue was unveiled by Tamil Nadu CM. But what astonished me was the response to the Bandh by the Bangaloreans. Only reason which made the Bandh partially complete was because it was on a Sunday. All buses, taxis and autos were plying in full strength, almost all shops remained open, malls and multiplexes worked as usual, which was a surprise for a man like me, who came from Harthal’s own country, Kerala. I am here at Bangalore for last three years and if I remember correctly it was only the second Bandh here in Bangalore after 2007 February (I think) for the cauvery issue.
I am really becoming jealous of this silicon city, for keeping this kind of attitude towards those politicians who want to exploit the normal people’s (mango people’s) silence. I wish the people of my Kerala should also have learned from the Bangaloreans, about how to handle these types of stupid Harthals.
I was always thinking of starting some blogs in my mother tongue, Malayalam. But I find that as very very challenging one, since there are lots of excellent, talented bloggers who are bringing smile in reader’s lips, as well as tears in eyes. There are bloggers who have daily visitor count more than 1,000. To step in to this world was one of my dreams. I was thinking about it for some time, but now it’s time to do something and hence it happened. I started my malayalam blog, again in my own wordpress only.
While writing my first post there, I find it very different to write Malayalam blogs than English blogs, again because of these giant well established bloggers. Anyway I would like to give it a try and hence would want all of yours continued support. 🙂
And here am back!!! after 2 long months gap. There were many reasons for that including personal to hi-fi technical reasons. The most and important one is that nothing was coming in my mind which was worth scribbling down. I had got bored writing blogs also. 🙂 Inspite of me being a software engineer, I neither have a computer nor a laptop in my house was another reason and more than that, to make things worse ( or good) wordpress got blocked at my work place. 😛 But even after that I was very happy to see that my blog crossed 1,000 hits even though there was no new post for two long months.
Now all of a sudden, the blogger inside me got rejuvenated after reading a couple of blogs and somehow I find a way to break into the wordpress account from workplace itself. 🙂 So here I comes with some new posts. But there comes the next problem what to post. 😦 Simply saying nothing is coming to my mind as of now, but hope that I could collect back something from my memory to scribble down. Since today am feeling too much lazy, with my manager on leave, I have got lots of time to think about that.
Once again thanks to all those visitors of my blog to find time to read these stupid craps!!!
See you all soon.
This happened more than three years before, when I was studying for MCA at Marian College, Kuttikkanam, Kerala. Being situated at hill range, our college has got limited play ground only. The only sports activities for us were football and cards, the later being strictly unofficial. Sajan and Vivek(officially known as EniPoni), were the only two from our class, who played football often. Anand, Saju and Me will join them very few times. This incident happened at one of that rare days, when we went to play football, along with Sajan and Poni.
To be frank, I was a big zero in any of the sports activities even from my childhood days. I know how to play many of the games, the rules and regulations of those games and all. Then also I was not able to play well. Only sports that I can try to play are Cricket, Football and table tennis, but I consider myself at a level between intermediate and expert in playing cards. Then also am a good spectator of almost all the sports. That may be the case why I know the rules of many of the games.
I liked football from long time back, but I was becoming a great fan of football when I doing my MCA. That might be the reason, I went to play football that day also. Since obviously nobody will allow me to play me in forward or midfield position, I took the decision to play at defense, myself. We all, sajan poni saju and me, were in the same team with me and saju playing defense and poni and sajan playing forward. Our opposite team was full of college team guys, including Manu, Jesin and Kadamba, who were in fact too good in football.
Mine and Saju’s defense strategy was simply awesome. Whenever some guy come running with ball towards our post, we will run towards him, and either push him off and clear the ball, or simply hit the ball hard and believe me, this strategy simply worked well that day. Everything was going nice and we hadn’t conceded one goal till then. We were proud of our defense. Suddenly I saw Manu, who is a well built guy, running towards me with the ball. I followed the same strategy we were following. I ran towards him and pushed him hard to throw him away. But what happened was exactly opposite. I pushed him hard, he also did the same thing and I was flying through the air literally. He threw me away from his way to open their scoring with a nice placement. 😦 I was laid down at the ground eating soil. 😛
But our Sajan and Poni were not ready to give up and we were cruising ahead. Since I got a huge setback for our defense strategy, I stopped doing that, because of which it was very easy for them to score through my wing. Since I didn’t want to taste the soil again, I just want to stop the game as early as possible. But my fate was different. Something great was waiting for me. Like Jamal told in Slumdog Millionaire, it was my destiny. Either bored of defending or not wanting to get any more punctures in my body, I decided to play forward. Our boys were playing too good at that time and were fighting hard to break the draw. Sajan was dribbling the ball well and was looking for someone to pass. I thought that to be a perfect moment and called for the pass. Suddenly Sajan shouted to move and fired a full power shot. I was still wondering why he asked me to move. But there was hardly any time to think, as I saw the ball coming to my face, in bullet speed. If my memory was right, we started with a white ball, but as it came closer and closer it became red. DDhim!!! I was struck down for the second time.
My face had became thick red color and I was feeling the pain caused by the minuscule stones at the surface of the ball. Sajan came running and all took me to side and sat me there. They might have been thinking that “thank god this a***ole will not play for sometime. 😛 But I was not ready to give up. 5 minutes and I was again spotted at the ground.
The light was going off, and hardly we could see anything. We can stop at anytime, but since it was still a draw, both the teams wanted to break it off. I was hardly playing and was waiting at the left side of the post so that if by chance I get the ball I can score it off. The time came and as I told, my destiny was reaching me. I saw Sajan giving a shot directly to me from long way. I waited for the goal, dreaming my team mates hugging me for scoring the late winner. As soon as the ball reached my leg, I twisted and give a power shot to the right. Instead of hugs which I was expecting, what I got was ‘A’ class scolding from Sajan and all. I was wondering and looked to see that, I had hit the ball outside the post. I turned back to see that I was standing right in front of post. “What the Heck!!!” I was standing at left side of the post and how come now am standing right before that. The worst part was that, Sajan aimed at direct goal from the half line in which I intercepted and kicked it away. 😛
Thanks to Sajan’s hot theris(mallu word for abusive words) which is keeping the picture of this incident crystal clear still in my mind and I don’t think it will go away soon also. But I learnt a big lesson that day. We should do whatever post we are fit into, otherwise we may forced to eat soil 🙂
It was all of a sudden that I decided to follow the great philosophy “early to bed and early to rise” for keeping one’s body and soul healthy and fresh. There were a couple of sound reasons also to take such a big decision. For a long while, my routine was just the reverse of the above said philosophy, i.e late to bed and late to rise. Late to rise means, anyway after 8:30. The important thing to note in this case is that my office time starts at 8.30 and a majority of employees would have come to office and start their work by that time. I will be still well settled under the blanket at that time. Moreover that I was fed up with the staring I used to get from my PM when I come to office with helmet in hand and jerkin on, at 10. Enough is enough and I took the big decision to bring some sort of discipline in my life 😛 . Ha Ha… Discipline!!! in my life!!! Sounds funny???
Last night I prepared mentally and physically for my change in lifestyle. Finished dinner early at 8. Switched off the TV. Now, this is the most important thing. For me, TV is the main culprit for ruining the discipline in my life. It will catch me and force me to sit in front of it for hours. If any football match is also there, then thats enough and more for me. So I considered TV as one of the main factor and managed to switch it off. Its almost 9.30 and I went to bed, dreaming to swipe the ID card at office at or before 8.30, the next day. Also hoping to see the smiling face of PM at least once in my life time.
I lied there at the bed, with eyes tightly closed, hoping to get the blessings of sleep angel soon. But it seemed like sleep angel got stuck up somewhere in the traffic jam and is getting late. I thought since my decision was all of a sudden, body and mind will take some time to get cop up with that. Time was scrolling slow like anything. I was wondering when the traffic jam will get clear for the sleep angel to come and hit me. I crawled inside the blanket, turned myself down, then up, then left, right. Still of no use. The screens of Eclipse and Flex Builder was flashing in my mind. Oh God!!! Not now. Am already fed up with that screens. Give me a Kit Kat break,, please… Thinking that it’s more than one hour I spent at bed, I looked the watch just to see that it’s only 15 minutes. The watch showed me its only 9.45 and laughed at me. It was telling, ‘see, here is the great PK who want to make his life disciplined’.
I was learning how difficult it is to bring discipline to our lives. But is it worth to take all these difficulties? What’s bad with the current routine? What will I do more if I reach one hour early? Just to avoid the staring of the PM, should I take this much risk? Let him stare. It’s his eyes and he can do anything with that 😛 . Wait!!! Why am I thinking all these things? Okay, that’s it. I am not mentally prepared for this great change.
Minutes later, I was sitting at my living room, reading ‘white tiger‘. And the same watch, which laughed at me some time before, was moving even faster and it was showing 1 o’ clok. As usual next day my card got swiped exactly at 10AM. 😛
Sounds different??? Don’t be confused. These were the two slogans heard loudly from two different parts of our great country, while it was celebrating its glorious 60th Republic Day. Two organizations, with some strange and barbarian motives, came down to the road to attack people in pure daylight.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) : An utterly uncivilized savage organization, which took up its motives from its parent organization Shiv sena, is now making great Mumbai a hell to live on. While Shiv sena aimed to throw out petty south Indians out of Mumbai, MNS changed their target from south Indians to north Indians. Shiv sena, which started around at 60’s, was the outcome of a set of people, in fact marathis, who were frustrated by seeing the business successes South Indians were making at Mumbai that time. Major percent of hotels and other industry were owned by South Indians, whom they referred as Madrasis, irrespective of whether they came from Madras or not. I donno about the success factor of that organization. But I can’t resist laughing when I saw Shiv sena units were being formed at different parts of Trivandrum and other parts of Kerala. An organization which was formed to eradicate entire South Indians from Mumbai, is starting their branches at Trivandrum, which in fact is the southern most city of India 😛 .
MNS, founded by Raj Thackeray, who in turn is the nephew of the great Bal Thackeray who found the stupid Shiv Sena. To make his party slightly different, he changed its motto to eradicate North Indians instead of South Indians. What a crap!!! If South Indians were targeted for being successful in businesses, these poor North Indians were targeted for being able to get into government jobs at Maharashtra. According to them, Maharashtrian Govt. jobs are only for Marathis. That was the point which made Raj Thackeray and his tadpoles to remain utter silent during the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai. During the entire attack and even after two months of attack, these idiotic sons remained silent. Everybody were asking questions where had they gone? Some were asking like “if the NSG commandos tell that we are from North India and Marathi’s dont want us to go there and fight, then what would have happened?” Didn’t that question make sense? Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who died at Taj fighting terrorists was not a Marathi. He was a petty mallu and why should have he go and die at a place which is forbidden for non-marathis. The answer is pretty simple. They saw the attack not happening at Mumbai, they saw it happening at India.
So after two long months’ gap, these tadpoles had finally woken up from their sleep and deep silence and started their work again and that too when this great country was celebrating its Republic Day. They went on the rampage disrupting Republic Day celebrations at a school in Nashik. The workers assaulted parents and beat up participants. They didn’t even spare posters of the martyrs of 26/11. Over 100 MNS workers charged into the school, tried to burn the makeshift tent and destroyed property. People at the programme had to run for cover and hide in room. What’s going on? Aren’t we living in India, the largest democracy in the world. If only marathi’s want to live in Maharashtra, Kannadiga in Karnataka, Tamilians in Tamil Nadu, then why should we tell that we are one nation under the tri color flag. More than that I won’t be surprised at all, if MNS starts its own branch somewhere at Bihar or UP.
Sri Rama Sena : Another barbarous organization, which I should tell, worse than MNS, were the second organization to make the Republic Day more colorful. I was not aware about this organization till day before yesterday. But on googling I came to know that this organization, found by Pramod Mutthalik, wants to make this country Rama Rajya. Now Rama Rajya is nothing but country which will run just like how it would have been if it was ruled by the great Rama, one of the avatar of god Vishnu. Actually the entire organizations like RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal all used Rama for propagate and justify their violence. So how will finally rama rajya look like. It won’t be having pubs??? Or only gents will be allowed to go to pubs? Did rama told somewhere that women should be pressed under the foot of men. They shouldn’t be equal or above men? These activists were attacking women at one pub in Mangalore, in Karnataka. Videos were showing how hardly and unsympathetically they were beating women. Was that what Rama did in his days?
OK, leave whatever Rama did and whatever Rama thought. In this 20th century who wants to live in a society which will be of milleniums older? If they wants to bring Rama Rajya, who knows tomorrow they will attack all buses and cars, saying that these were not there at Rama’s time and everyone should either use horses or chariots. And one more thing, please don’t think that the act you did is worth appreciable. It’s not a credit for any men to beat women like beating dogs. And more than that please don’t make us, Hindus, feel shame by doing all these.
I am not going to blame only MNS. There are similar organizations here at Karnataka also called Kannada Rakshana Vedike. Same thing. Same motto. One flag with yellow and red colors on that. You can really see this flag each and every corner of Bangalore, in fact at whole Kanataka. Eventually, putting this flag in your building will save your building from stones or fire, if some outrages or riots gets start. When there was Kaveri water issue was going on between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, each and every IT company in Bangalore hosted this flag to save their building from these stupids. Believe me, its only after coming to Bangalore I realised that there are flags for each states. There is no such thing in Kerala. I am not saying they are united, but still I think we don’t bother what other state’s people are doing there. There are tamil, hindi, english and telugu dubbed films running in Kerala theatres. This is not because Malayalam don’t have cinemas, but we mallus have a habit to accept any culture or language. In fact I consider Malayalam films better than any South Indian films. For proof, just cout the number of awards malayalam film industry gets each year.
But here that’s not the case. In Bangalore, they hadn’t started any agitation to throw away other state’s people as of now. Then also if they plan that also, I don’t think that will work out. Because majority of population in Bangalore is other state people. If all of them are thrown out, Bangalore will become just another Karnataka town. Same is the case in Mumbai. When will they understand that Mumbai is like what it is now, only because people are coming there from other states. If non-marathi’s are thrown out of Mumbai, it will eventually become city of slums.
So please at least now realize the fact that, we all are Indians and we should stand like that. Otherwise believe me, our neighbors would need no time to make our country “Islamic Republic of Pakistan”. Please, Stand United for our India. Jai Hind.
It was a proud moment for all the Indians yesterday, when there were 3 Oscar nominations for A.R.Rahman. All the news channels were praising the great lad of India, Rahman, yesterday. The same music had grabbed him the golden globe award also last week. It was with great expectation and enthusiasm I started hearing the song today morning. To be frank I couldn’t believe my ears. I couldn’t believe that I am hearing one Rahman song.
Being a strong Rahman fan for long time, in fact from 1992 when he did his debut film Roja, I was overwhelmed by joy when I heard the news of his Oscar nominations. It was once said that, Rahman took the pledge that he will cut his hair only after winning Oscar. But hearing most of his songs, I sincerely felt several times that he should have been awarded Oscar multiple times. Roja, Puthiya Mugham, May Madham, Pavithra, Bombay, Minsaara Kanavu, Dil Se, Taal, Taj Mahal, Alaipayuthey, Kannathil Muthamittal, The Legend of Bhagath Sing, Kandukondein Kandukondein, Lagaan, Swades, Yuva, Rang De Basanthi, Jodha Akbar and many more… Lot hell of superb music from the great Mozart of Chennai. Vande mataram released part of Indian Independance’s golden Jubilee celebration was another gret work from the great maestro. These all works truly deserved huge appreciation and honour from all over the world.
But to be frank, this SlumDog Millionaire is no where near to his ever time great work. May be the Oscar Committee will not be hearing all these Hindi and Tamil Music. Since this film is outcome from one British Director, may be they considered Rahman for this award. I strongly believe that they should not only consider that factor. They should consider such great music from all parts of the world. Who knows there may be many other Rahmans making music at different parts of this world. If they starts like that, I think Rahman will be one of the nominees ever year.
Rahman music has one factor. When you first hear the music, you will be thinking that what the hell? Is this music from the so called Mozart. But believe me, hear the music couple of more times and I bet, you will get addicted to that. That’s the paculiarity about Rahman Music. Same thing happened with me. That was the time, when Jodha Akbar music got released. I heard it once and felt like what is this guy doing. He did such a master piece work in Lagaan and Swades, which were from the same director, and he is doing such a worst music for such a huge film. But at the end of day, I was addicted to the music and I was hearing all the songs for months.
Coming back to the Oscar, whatever the case is, still am very much happy for my music maestro Rahman, for getting nominated. Let the whole world know that even the film shows about the slums and dirtiness of India, it is having great artists and persons like Rahman. You made all of us Indians proud, Rahman. Thanks a lot for that. Jai Ho...
PS: I was hearing the slumdog millionaire songs while writing this post. My main aim for writing this was to tell that this song is not good compared to his other works. But believe me, my entire opinion had changed. This song is another master piece. Its another feather in the golden crown of the great maestro. I start liking the songs now. I told na, this is the paculiarity of Rahman music. You need to hear it couple of times to start liking it. 🙂 These songs are gonna rock.
Seeing this post, please don’t think that this guy has got no other topics to write on other than “recession“. You won’t be thinking like that if you are present at this IT city, Bangalore. The hot topic being discussed by all people, here at Bangalore is obviously “recession“. The hot news today is that “Nortel” had applied for a bail out. This will be a shocking news for several major Indian companies because big companies like Infy, Sasken, Wipro and TCS are having Nortel as one of their major client. Its also heard that Nortel is planning for a lay-off.
Hearing all these, I have a big doubt generating inside my mind. Is the whole world running under virtual money? Many big companies are filing for bankruptcy. So where did all those profits gone, which they had earned for these all years. Is these big companies not capable of surviving even two bad quarters? Are the car manufactures like Chevrolet, who are in the industry for nearly a century, this much weak? Two – Three bad quarters and the entire company goes bankrupt??? Are the foundations of these companies this much weak? Really this is making me surprise. I was well expecting such kind of U-Turn in world economy, but was not having a single thought that it will make many industry giants bankrupt. Still the question exists, Where did those profit went?
Its time to find out who is the ultimate culprit for this economic crisis. Everyone here at Bangalore, including me, were living with a secured feeling that, the rising economy will feed us all the time. But the time had changed a lot within this last half year. News of job cuts at several companies coming out daily. That too in thousands. With the Satyam scam, another half a lakh job seekers coming to the job market, it seems like coming days are really gonna tough. If we think in other way, isn’t it funny that, some stupid Americans had took so much credit, and the whole rest of the world is affected under that. But we can’t blame them also. When there are lots of banks out there, who are ready to give you any amount of money you want, with very less proof of guarantee, everybody will take loan. Believe me, am still getting minimum 2 calls a day seeking whether I want any personal loans. When will these banks understand the truth and save this world.
The thought is still floating high in my mind. Where did all those money went, which were there six months before. So wasn’t that all Virtual Money? I hope the whole world, including me, will understand, at least now, that the whole world is running under Virtual Money. Or is it like the whole world is Virtual??? A virtual world!!!???
